Pressfort vs Sucuri
A Sucuri alternative built just for WordPress.
Sucuri is one of the few security services that includes malware clean-ups in every Platform plan. So the real comparison is everything around the clean-up.
The short answer
Sucuri and Pressfort both include hack clean-ups. Sucuri's strengths are its cloud firewall and CDN, unlimited clean-ups and support for any platform. Pressfort is built only for WordPress and adds staging-tested updates and daily backups to the same price, all set up for you.

Where Sucuri is strong
Sucuri is closer to Pressfort than most security plugins, because clean-ups are part of the deal. Every Platform plan includes unlimited malware removal by Sucuri’s team, along with blocklist removal if Google or another service has flagged your site. The price is fixed for the year, however many times you need help.
Its firewall is a different kind to most WordPress plugins. Your visitors reach Sucuri’s network first, which filters out attacks and absorbs large DDoS floods before they ever touch your server. The same network works as a CDN, so pages can load faster too.
Sucuri also works with any platform, not just WordPress. If you look after a mix of WordPress, Magento and custom sites, one provider for all of them is a real advantage.
Where Pressfort is different
Updates are part of the job. Most successful attacks use a known weakness, usually a plugin that hasn’t been updated. Sucuri protects your site and cleans it up, but keeping WordPress, plugins and themes up to date is left to you. Pressfort takes a backup, tests updates on a staging copy of your site, then pushes them live.
Backups are included. Sucuri’s backups are a $5 a month add-on. Pressfort backs up your whole site every day, stores it off-site and keeps each backup for 90 days, at no extra cost.
Nothing to reconfigure. Sucuri’s firewall needs your DNS pointing at its network, which is a job many site owners would rather not touch. Pressfort’s protection runs from a plugin, so your DNS and hosting stay exactly as they are.
A WordPress developer, not a general ticket queue. Pressfort only looks after WordPress sites. Clean-ups are done by people who have been building and repairing WordPress sites for almost 15 years.
Where Sucuri goes further. Its clean-ups are unlimited, where Pressfort includes two a year per site. It also offers a CDN, protection against large DDoS attacks and support for platforms other than WordPress.

Sucuri's Basic Platform plan costs less than Pressfort and includes unlimited clean-ups, which is good value. Add Sucuri's backup service and it comes to $289 a year ($229 plus $5 a month). Faster clean-up targets cost more: Business is $549 a year. None of the plans run your updates for you.

Which to choose
Pressfort or Sucuri?
Choose Sucuri if
- Your site isn't on WordPress, or you look after sites on several platforms
- You want a cloud firewall and CDN sitting in front of your site
- You expect to need clean-ups often and want them unlimited
- You're happy to run your own updates
Choose Pressfort if
- Your site runs on WordPress and you'd like a WordPress developer looking after it
- You want updates handled for you and tested on staging before they go live
- You want daily off-site backups included, not added on
- You'd rather not change your DNS to set up a firewall
Is Sucuri better than Pressfort?
It depends what you need. Sucuri's cloud firewall and CDN sit in front of your site and work with any platform, and every Platform plan includes unlimited clean-ups. Pressfort is built only for WordPress and includes the day-to-day care around security too: staging-tested updates, 90-day backups and uptime monitoring.
Does Sucuri include backups?
Not in the Platform plans. Sucuri sells website backups as a $5 a month add-on for existing customers, kept for 90 days. Pressfort includes daily off-site backups, kept for 90 days, in its standard price.
Do I need to change my DNS to use Pressfort?
No. Pressfort's firewall runs through a plugin on your site, so there's nothing to change. Sucuri's firewall works by routing your visitors through Sucuri's network, which means pointing your DNS at it.
Pressfort includes two clean-ups a year. Is that enough?
For most sites, yes. If a site is hacked again and again, cleaning it again usually isn't the fix. There's an underlying cause, such as a stolen password, a problem with the hosting or an abandoned plugin. From the third incident in a year, we offer a free consultation to find that cause and tell you how to fix it.
Can I move from Sucuri to Pressfort?
Yes. Buy Pressfort, install the plugin from your account and connect your site. If you used Sucuri's firewall, point your DNS back to your host before your Sucuri plan ends, so your site doesn't go offline.
